Olympic Hereos
Noah Lyles, one of the most celebrated stars in American track and field, broke down into tears after winning the bronze medal in the men’s 200 meters at the Tokyo Games on Wednesday. After the race, Lyles opened up about his difficult year battling depression, seeking therapy, and taking anti-depressants. “I wanted them to know if you guys see me in a big light, I want you to know that its OK not to feel good and you can go out and talk to somebody…. This is a serious issue. You don’t want to wake up one day and think, 'I don’t want to be here anymore.” Lyles joins the ranks of other Olympians sharing their mental health journeys, including Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka, who are all showing the world that even our heroes aren’t perfect.
