Study Finds Cannabis Disorder Leads To Infant Mortality
Infants whose mothers have addiction to cannabis are 50% more likely to die during the first year of their life according to a new study. There were about 34,000 births with a cannabis use disorder diagnosis in pregnancy. Prevalence increased over the multi-year study. The risk of death increased in part to perinatal conditions that occurred from the 28th week of pregnancy up to the 4th week after moms delivered. The study underscores a growing body of evidence about the importance of early treatment options for these moms but moreso preventive measures to limit the disorder.
