New Telehealth Platform Attentive To People of Color

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought health disparities among people of color into sharp focus.

Spora Health, a new telemedicine platform that offers primary care services for people of color, is collaborating with Decent, a health insurance provider for self-employed people and their families.

Decent’s plans are built on the direct primary care model, so patients receive 24/7 telemedicine services. This now includes Spora, which consists of providers who are culturally competent and trained to understand health inequities. Decent members will be able to select one of Spora Health’s providers when they sign up to receive culturally sensitive care that is in line with their needs with no copay. Every Spora Health physician and medical provider complete training through the Spora Institute, the organization's training curriculum, which serves to help them understand their implicit biases and understand people of color's unique backgrounds.

Founded in 2020, Spora provides diagnostic and treatment services for several chronic conditions, primarily allergies and asthma, digestive issues, dermatological conditions, women’s health including birth control and mammogram screening, prostate issues, mental health, lower back pain, diabetes, and hypertension.

Decent is available in Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Texas and is looking to expand to other parts of the country.
