Parents Overwhelmed
Results from a study of 1,362 parents in 2020 revealed a series of challenges for parents dealing with children on the autism spectrum, misperceptions about the risk of addiction and eating disorders, and the pros and cons when their kids play travel sports. The latest findings will be revealed in May 2023 - and while they show some progress and improvement, they continue to illustrate the challenges parents are facing raising kids in the age of social media, and reveal a new set of information about the science behind parent behavior and response. The study’s objective was to assess parental experience with raising kids.
As background, this Behavioral Health Hour study was led by the research team, conducted online with 1,362 parents annually over a 12 year period of parents from 26 U.S. states. Families were identified initially in 2008 from a pool of coaches of youth sports across the US who participated in an initial poll about challenges coaching kids of different skills, backgrounds, health challenges, and family dynamics. The latest results are from September 2020 of 53% moms and 47% dads. 79% had more than one child. Stay tuned for the future results.
