Parents Complain About Gaps In Treatment

Parents, in a recent survey on their adolescent’s mental health, complained about wait times and quality. The survey, conducted by Cigna, found:

  1. 63% experiencing long delays and wait times to receive treatment

  2. 57% reporting challenges paying for mental health services

  3. 36% having trouble finding a trustworthy mental health provider for their children

  4. 55% feeling limited support from their employer

  5. 44% saying they were “uncomfortable” asking for support from their employer at all

About 25% of employees used their employer sponsored coverage to access mental health services in 2020, according to a different study published by America’s Health Insurance Plans. This equates to 41 million of the 180 million individuals in the US who get their coverage from employer sponsored insurance, including 6 million children who received mental health services via dependent coverage. More than half of patients getting treatment in 2020 received mental health support from primary care physicians.
