Lyme Or Stress?

There’s a growing trend in teenagers and young adults reporting significant fatigue but is this fatigue from stress and anxiety, or is it something else? Several doctors wonder if reports of chronic tiredness and stress aren’t really masking Lyme disease, an inflammatory condition that tends to cause extreme fatigue. What’s interesting is growing incidence of lab test orders have been happening but they often originate from requests by psychiatrists who want to confirm that that the teen’s “chronic tiredness” isn’t really Lyme masked as stress.  I think this is good to be checking on but important to have the pediatrician or primary care doctor looped in to determine whether the lab test makes sense given the patient’s history and other symptoms.
