Brain Abnormality
A large study of brain MRI scans from nearly 12,000 children between the ages of 9 and 10 reviewed by UC San Francisco neuroradiologists identified potentially life-threatening conditions in 1 in 500 children, and minor but possibly clinically significant brain abnormalities in 1 out of 25 children. The results, first published in 2021, are part of a national study on adolescent brain development and some of the results are life changing - one parent revealed how her son had a successful surgery after UCSF neuroradiologists removed a brain tumor that was detected by the team.
