Crisis Diversion

“What we’re doing here is transformative, not only for The Village. It’s transformative for the state”

This from Galo Rodriguez, CEO of The Village, who told The Connecticut Mirror recently that the non-profit’s new mental health urgent care crisis center will offer youth immediate support in a space designed specifically to help them.

“A child may be thinking that they’re going to die, that they won’t be able to breathe,” Rodriguez told the Mirror. “There is no need to go to the emergency room in a situation like that. … People will go (to The Village’s new facility) and they will be assessed immediately. The staff will deescalate the event, the attack, and they will give a follow-up. It could be medications. It could be therapy. It could be sending them to the outpatient clinic.”

Under Rodriguez, The Village has added adult programming, outpatient counseling, financial literacy training and support for domestic violence survivors.

There is a trend across the US with more non-profit and for-profit centers dedicated to mental health crisis. To track the developments, click here.
