Remembering Troy

So if I had five more minutes with Troy I’d like to think I wouldn’t spend it convincing him to stay here. We’d hopefully just reminisce about almost winning the state open doubles championship or how we almost set fire to the camping tents in San Juan, and we’d probably debate who Sarah Oliver liked better in 3rd grade. I’d like to think Troy wasn’t exactly alone when he died from suicide this week – part of me hopes the 51 year old was running back the good memories in his mind, those with his family and friends. I’d like to think that. If you’re investing in behavioral health - perhaps as a business owner, an educator, maybe a therapist in training - I’d only say that one of the underappreciated goals is not just to get people to feel better and cope when they can’t, but to really see the gifts they have – and believe it.
